2011 Annual General Meeting

The Weston Creek Athletics Club Annual General Meeting has been rescheduled. It will be held at the Canberra Irish Club, Weston Creek at 7:30pm 15 June 2011.

The AGM is the most important non-athletic event on the Club's calender and we encourage all Club members to attend.

Weston Creek Half Marathon, 13 March 2011

Entries are now open for the 26th Weston Creek Half Marathon to be held at 7:30am Sunday 13 March, 2011, starting and finishing at Black Mountain Peninsula, ACT.

The course starts at the end of Garryowen Drive on Black Mountain Peninsula. Runners will proceed along Garryowen Drive and turn left onto the shared path just before Lady Denman Drive. Runners then proceed along the shared path, (keeping to the left hand side) around West Basin and over Scrivener Dam before following shared paths past the ovals at Curtin, under McCulloch street and adjacent to Yarra Glen. The shared path then crosses under Melrose Drive and passes the Pitch n Putt in Woden. Shortly after runners turn and retrace their steps to Black Mountain Peninsula. Here they turn right onto the bike path near the rowing sheds and enter John Cardiff Close for the finish.

Joshua Torley and Treasurer Martin Dent Win Australian Cross Country Championships

Gold medals to Dent and Torley at Australian Cross Country Championships

A large number of Weston Creek athletes heading north on the weekend to contest the Athletic Australian, All Schools, and School Sport Australia, Australian Cross Country Championships in Brisbane.

Weston Creek came back with two gold medals. Martin Dent winning the open men’s 12km and 11 year old Joshua Torley destroying the field in the boys 11 years 3km race.

Dent, who is in preparations for the Commonwealth Games Marathon in India later this year (October), stopped the clock at 36 minutes 49 seconds for the 12km course ahead of a strong field, including Victoria Liam Adams (second in 37:05) and Jeff Hunt (fellow Commonwealth Games marathon nominee) third in 37:20. The ACT open men’s team won the bronze.

Torley, who has had a very impressive winter season so far, top it off with a very convincing win in the boys 11 years 3km race. Torley won by over 20 seconds for the 3km race and has started a bright future in cross country and athletics.

The ACT women’s team also took the bronze, headed by Weston Creek’s Emily Brichacek who placed fourth in her first open women’s national cross country race. Winner of the open women’s race was South Australian Jessica Trengove wining in 28:00 with Queenslanders Clare Geraghty second in 28:28 and Tamara Carvolth third in 28:38.
